What's Your Theme Song?
By Assistant Pastor Dr. Jaden Fitzpatrick | October 26, 2025
Father, thank You for this day. Help us worship You in spirit and truth. Bless the preacher, the workers, and every heart here. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
On October 26, 2025, Assistant Pastor Dr. Jaden Fitzpatrick delivers a powerful, heart-searching message titled “What’s Your Theme Song?” at Mission Baptist Church. Using TV and movie theme songs—from The Addams Family to Grave Digger—he illustrates how a theme song instantly reveals the show’s identity. In the same way, our actions, words, and attitudes play the “theme song” of our heart. Drawing from Ephesians 4:18, Proverbs 14:14, and Luke 9:23, Dr. Fitzpatrick identifies three spiritual theme songs: the lost, the backslider, and the cross carrier. With humor, conviction, and urgency, he calls every listener to examine their life: “You can fool me, but you can’t fool God.” Are you living for self—or carrying your cross daily?
1. The Theme Song of the Lost
Dr. Fitzpatrick begins with the lost: “Having the understanding darkened… because of the blindness of their heart” (Ephesians 4:18). The lost live in spiritual darkness, alienated from God. They sin without conviction, speak freely, and go where they please—unbothered by guilt. Like the rich man in hell (Luke 16), they ignore Moses, the prophets, and even Christ Himself. “If you love the world, the love of the Father is not in you” (1 John 2:15). Tragically, “many… go in” the broad way to destruction (Matthew 7:13). Dr. Fitzpatrick warns: “If your hope is in anything but Jesus, you are lost.” Salvation is not by works, church, or goodness—but by grace through faith alone. All are culpable (Romans 1:20), and the gospel is only good news if it arrives on time.
2. The Theme Song of the Backslider
Next, the backslider: “The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways” (Proverbs 14:14). Backsliding begins in the heart—not circumstances. “No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). Backsliders know truth but reject it. They nitpick carpet colors, leave over chairs, and bring bad attitudes to church. Their Bibles gather dust; their garments grow filthy. Dr. Fitzpatrick declares: “There’s no such thing as Christian furlough—unless you’re backslid.” They serve out of obligation, not love. Gossip, criticism, and division follow. “If you love Him, you’ll keep His commandments”—cheerfully. Backsliders consent to others’ destruction by silence, just as Paul once consented to Stephen’s death.
3. The Theme Song of the Cross Carrier
Finally, the cross carrier: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Serving Christ is a daily decision—not weekly or occasional. Cross carriers pray, attend faithfully, tithe, witness, and invite. They forsake their plans for God’s. Dr. Fitzpatrick debunks “burnout”: Paul endured stoning, shipwreck, and starvation—yet never quit. “Burnout happens when you work in your strength, not God’s grace.” This generation is responsible for this generation’s lost. The Great Commission wasn’t just for apostles—it’s for us. Dr. Fitzpatrick closes: “If God turned on the TV of your life, what theme song would play?” Lost? Backsliding? Or cross-carrying? Come to the altar—get honest, get real, get right.
